This week's tasting is a stalwart collection of robust and assertive bourbons from deep in the stash.
We suggest opening with the always-loved-but-always-sold-out E.H. Taylor Small Batch to warm the taste buds. A classic bottled-in-bond bourbon through and through - expect notes of cinnamon, apple, Chicago-style popcorn and charred oak. Massively complex if you take your time.
Next up, Little Book Chapter II. A blend of rye and corn whiskeys at cask strength from the esteemed Freddie Noe, this is a powerful whiskey. Notes of honey and spice are balanced with bracing alcohol.
We conclude with the first 'uncut' bourbon to hit the market, the famous Booker's. A masterpiece and a punch in the abdomen all at once, this batch of Booker's clocks in at an ABV well north of 60%, but the palate of roasted peanuts and brown sugar pastry keeps things in check. A wild ride.
